About the Young Lawyers Committee
The Young Lawyers Committee is a committee of the Wellington District Law Society. Young Lawyers account for approximately one quarter of all lawyers holding current practising certificates with the Wellington District Law Society and the focus of the Committee is on providing a vehicle for the views of lawyers in Wellington in their first five years of practise as well as providing social opportunities for those lawyers to meet and network.
The current Committee represents young lawyers, not only from the large law firms, but also small and medium size firms, accountancy firms, government entities, corporations and other organisations.
The Committee is involved in a number of social and sporting activities throughout the year including:
The Committee's involvement in Wellington activities, however, is not limited solely to these. The Committee is involved in careers seminars, education schemes, a numbers of sub-committees, and numerous seminars. Committee members also provide assistance with admissions to the profession. One of the primary goals of the committee is to attempt to bridge the gap between the younger and older members of the profession. As part of this, the Committee, and many of its members attend numerous functions throughout Wellington each year.
